Two teams that took off in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the TEI of Thessaly are coming to the Festival to introduce their innovative ideas!

Enhance your travelling experiences!

The “Univtag” application by ITBIZ was initially developped as part of Dimitris Gravanis’ diploma Thesis for the Master’s program “Software Engineering for Internet and Portable Applications”, and became a reality under the roof of an established Thessaly company, with an improve the landscape of tourism-related products in Greece and enhance the travelling experiences of local and international visitors alike. It is an app with recorded voice guided tours with navigation elements, easy to use and accessible to all. The app is expected to be released as a free app for Android users through the Google Play Store by the end of this year. Come to see how it works!

Disease Diagnosis with Smart Phones

The “Plant Disease” application which will be  presented by assistant professor Nikolaos Petrellis of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering was designed to recognize  plant diseases from smart phone photo imaging that depicts pathogen-affected leaves or fruits, lack of nutrients in the soil, pesticide contamination, etc. But they didn’t stop there! A similar application for Skin Disease diagnosis, (vitiligo, warts, psoriasis, melanoma, moles, etc.), has been developed using the same classification methods. Come and see this innovative app- which has been recognized in international conference presentations and bears two patents from the National Patent Office- in action.

Visit us at the Thessaly Science Festival to find out how your phone will soon be able to guide you through monuments and sights in Greece- but also may be helping doctors and agronomists in their daily work!
